Stepping steadily, I placed one foot after another on the hard pavement. The air was brisk, drawing a chill into my lungs each time I took a breath, but I chose to focus on the rhythm of my walk. Left, then right, occasionally kicking the odd loose pebble as I made my way down the seemingly never-ending strip of concrete. I wrinkled my nose at the oily smells of the city around me, taking in the sights of the tall buildings that engulfed the skyline as far as my eyes could see. The mousy girl quickened her step, hurrying off to her mystery destination.
